More about Myself:
Continuing Education
I attend continuing legal education seminars at the National Association for Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys and through the State Bar of Texas. I subscribe to the National Consumer Law Center series on consumer advocacy. I also work to educate consumers on the topics of consumer law and bankruptcy through my blog.
Why did you decide to be a lawyer?
I chose to be a lawyer to help people. I really enjoy the idea of consumers gaining the upper hand when creditors violate state or federal consumer protection law include the FDCPA and the Texas DTPA. I know what people are up against, and I feel strongly about giving them the new start the law intends for them to have.
What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?
I have been a lawyer and small business owner for over 15 years. I understand the day to day financial stresses and successes that individuals and businesses face. In particular, I understand that when a client needs help, they want and need my individual attention. That means a personal relationship with me, not my secretary. I do not run a Bankruptcy-Mill type of practice, and therefore, you will never be treated like cattle. My assistant helps me with paperwork only. When dealing with this office, you will always be talking with me to help collect all of your information. I personally will make sure that whatever course of action we take, it will be in your best interest.
Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?
I chose to focus on Bankruptcy and Consumer Law because I feel strongly about helping people who have been up against an unregulated credit and banking system that stacks the cards against them (no pun intended).
What do you like best about your career?
I enjoy being in a unique position to help people solve their financial difficulties, and I understand what a relief it can be to have that fresh start. I very much enjoy establishing long-term trusting relationships with people, and using my knowledge and advocacy to help solve problems and achieve goals.
Tell us about your law firm:
I am a solo practitioner, so all of my clients deal directly with me or Valerie, who answers the phone. I am a member of numerous local bar associations, and I often work closely with other attorneys in my area if outside counsel is required.
What are your strengths and style?
My strength is my in-depth knowledge of both the bankruptcy code and consumer protection laws including the Texas Deceptive trade Practice Act, the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), Truth in Lending Act (TILA), Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act (RESPA), and Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA).
Personal Interests:
I am an instrument rated pilot, and I love to play the guitar.
